So... Welcome back to school for 2014.
No, I don't have the Fall Production ready to announce yet, but that will be soon. For those of you who check this like a suggested in class, the secret word is SMAUG. Write that on your activity you turn in the first week for an automatic 10 points. Thanks for visiting. YES ! A new blog. ANY of my students who read this and bring it in before 10/17/12 will get an X-tra credit 100 to replace ANY test grade ! That's right - - I've been telling you to keep updated, & now I deliver!
Anyway - - WHY are we hosting Sub-Region One Act? Oh, right. Prestige & fund-raising. And stress-building, and hair-losing, and stomach acid-inducing, and sleep-losing. But it will all be worth it when we pull this thing off and stand proud afterwards. Right? So gear up, and get ready and here we go. Should be a wild ride . . . UPDATES:
- For our Fall production we are NOT doing a Melodrama - I am looking at a Mystery Thriller or a nice meaty drama. Stay tuned . . . - For the Spring, we will of course be doing a musical. AND . . . we are doing Disney! Actually, we're trying something new: we are going to do TWO Disney shows! Catch your breath - - sit down - - it's Okay. We are doing two One Acts (short plays) with an intermission in between. Titles TBA later. (No, that does not mean "Tacos, Bacon, Apples" Bean and Erich !) - Phantom was a success ! But of course you knew that. However, to help quash rumors: there is not an available video. Sorry. R&H Musicals did not grant taping rights, so we are not able to produce a tape of the show. Yes, This is just a repeat of the message on the front page. Wow. Didn't realize how long it had been since I posted.
Well, 2010-11 is over, and what a ride! I am going to really miss my graduates. And I am also really looking forward to next year. This summer, I will be at GHP - the Governor's Honor Program - working with the Theatre Majors & minors. This is my second year, and I learned so much and had such a good time that I begged to do it again. So - - have a great summer, and see you RHS Thespians on Aug 1st ! )Semester Finals are here ! Most of you exempted, but a few "lucky" souls get to spend extra time with me. Yay !
Here's a cool "Acrostic Poem" Sam (my son) and I found: Does any one realize all the Ridiculous things Actors and actresses Must endure before hearing the Applause? - - - - - Allison C. (http://home.earthlink.net/~jesmith/Acrostic1.html Ahhhh. That unique feeling when a show ends. Euphoria for great production; a little emptiness & withdrawal because something that dominated our lives for a while is over; And, of course, relief that the domination has ended and I can experience that rare and elusive thing called "free time" !
I enjoyed staging "Saving the Greeks: One Tragedy at a Time". My cast was wonderful and funny, the play was clever, and the audience was appreciative and could not stop laughing. I even enjoyed the opportunity to build a set entirely out of cardboard! I also got the chance to work with some strong, talented actors that have been missing from the RHS stage and some RHS regulars. I am also excited about some of the fresh new talent I got to welcome to our program. And now it's time to look forward. Fiddler on the Roof is one of my favorite musicals, and one I have always wanted to be involved in. I also look forward to the Band students returning from the dead and re-joining us on stage. So - - - get your auditions ready ! The play has closed. I personally had a wonderful experience - - the students did an amazing job, and we had the largest attendance we've ever had for a Fall production !
Now with the play closed I will have more time to update the site - - however, One Act is this week, so no big updates just yet. But they're coming . . . Wow. Missed a whole month.
By now you should realize I'm not much on blogging. I don't have a Facebook, Twitter or anything else page. And I obviously can barely keep this up. HOWEVER: Keep following along, have patience. Wow - 2 weeks of school gone by soooooo fast. Or, soooooo slow, depending on perspective.
Our Fall production - - "Saving the Greeks: One Tragedy at a Time" - - is going to be very funny. The characters are absurd, and the situations are farcical. I look forward to getting a cast together so we can get moving finally ! Well, that's it. I am really not much of a blogger. But I'll try to do better than just every 2 weeks. AND: Any student who comes up to me before Friday (8/21) and says, "Yes, Notre Dame IS pathetic !" gets 10 bonus points to use on any test. That is really just so I know if anyone is checking this. Although, hearing that phrase repeatedly will make my days a little brighter. Okay - - Later. |
